Vessel Security Awareness

33 CFR Part 104

This course is designed for company and vessel personnel with security duties to perform their duties in accordance with the requirements of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002, Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, the IMO ISPS Code, and U.S. Coast Guard regulations contained in 33 CFR Chapter I Subchapter H. Topics covered include:

• Current security threats and patterns
• Recognition and detection of dangerous substances and devices
• Recognition of characteristics and behavioral patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security
• Techniques used to circumvent security measures
• Crowd management and control techniques
• Security related communications
• Emergency procedures and contingency plans
• Operation of security equipment
• Testing and calibration of security equipment and systems, and their maintenance while at sea
• Inspection, control, and monitoring techniques
• Relevant provisions of the Vessel Security Plan
• Methods of physical screening of persons, personal effects, baggage, cargo, and vessel stores
• The meaning and the consequential requirements of the different Maritime Security (MARSEC) Levels
• Relevant aspects of the TWIC program and how to carry them out
