Fall Protection - Competent Person/Rescuer

29 CFR 1926 Subpart M

Prior to taking this course, participants must complete the Fall Protection – End User course. This course will cover the specific requirements of the competent person designated to oversee personnel exposed to fall hazards as well as rescue requirements and techniques used for rescue of suspended workers. Fall protection regulations will be covered in detail as well as industry best practices.

Competent persons will be required to:

• Develop a fall protection plan when given a work scenario.
• Set up and dismantle a pre-engineered horizontal life line system.
• Set up and dismantle a vertical life line including attachment of a rope grab.
• Fill out a JSA, Fall Hazard Analysis.

The rescue portion will cover the need for quick rescue and the cause and effect of suspension trauma. Different scenarios and rescue techniques will be covered in the classroom portion of the class.

The Rescue portion will require students to:

• Develop a rescue plan when given a work scenario.
• Inspect and set up rescue equipment.
• Hands on use of rescue equipment.
